About Us
With Farmer Doug, it's all about growing green. From apples to zucchini, with Christmas trees in between, we pride ourselves on giving our customers the best service, information, and produce.
By growing green, is more of a lifestyle than anything else. It also means that we use less inputs. We pretty much reuse as much as possible to make our gardens better. We primarily heat our home with wood. The wood ashes go on the garden to sweeten the soil. We use shredded paper to bed our chickens. We use the composted chicken manure on potatoes. We have red wigglers (worms) composting our food scraps in a tub in the basement. Whenever possible, we will recycle, reuse, or reduce what we use.
Customer service is very important to us. Food safety and cleanliness is of the upmost importance. The chickens have always been butchered in a licensed butchershop, but this year, we are going one step further...the chickens will be butchered with an inspector on site. This will make them "same as USDA", therefore enabling restaurants to purchase them for sale. This is exciting news to us!!!!
We have more exciting news this year, also. We are about to be grandparents for the 3rd time!! It seems like yesterday when our princess Donna was born. 2 years later, we welcomed Deegan, and now we are awaiting the arrival of Dane. They all belong to our son Derek and his fabulous wife Brook. They live in Anchorage, AK. We spend as much time as possible with the kids. We met them in Seattle earlier this year, and had a fabulous long weekend on Whitby Island. Doug is planning to be in fishing with Derek in mid June. Our Jamaican friends are meeting Doug there and will spend a week deep-sea fishing and exploring Alaska. This should be really exciting for everyone. More on that later.
We are so looking forward to another year with our dear friends and customers at the Farmer's Market.
